It was bad enough that I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and now I want to start a rock blog? This is almost certainly retarded. But never underestimate a determined Asian guy with a camera and an undying passion for indie music. That's like underestimating a failed German art student. For the record, I firmly believe that the Jewish are a lovely people and should therefore never have been victims of genocide and/or bigotry. Anyway.
I fell into concert photography. I started off just as a regular photographer, but shooting weddings and babies just wasn't as hardcore as fighting my way to the front of a crowd and trying to mosh my way to a good photo. The road's been long and hard, but gone are the days when I'd call up publicists to "shoot for my portfolio" like some newbie douchebag. That Rock Blog is the first step towards a legitimate online publication in music photojournalism.
Here's some of my work from 2007.
THE FRAY (The Orpheum, 03/21/2007)
OH NO! OH MY! (The Media Club, 08/22/2007)
RILO KILEY (The Showbox, 09/08/2007)
SHINY TOY GUNS (Croatian Cultural Centre, 09/10/2007)
BAT FOR LASHES (The Plaza Club, 10/13/2007)
THE PIPETTES (The Plaza Club, 11/03/2007)
SONDRE LERCHE (The Red Room, 11/07/2007)
It's probably worth mentioning that all these images are protected by copyright law and that I've hunted down people and filed NOI's (Notices Of Infringement) in the past. It wasn't pretty and I really don't like doing it 'cuz it makes me sort of look like a dick, but for me, these images and any I put up in the future are worth more to me than most of the crap I own. Want my TV? If you can find it, take it. I really couldn't care less. But if you try to swipe these images, I'll get God himself to come down on you like a sack of bricks and smite you in the babymaker. Just so we're clear.
Aside from that, in soon-to-come updates, you'll get to read a lot more about music news and indie bands in and around Vancouver, and if you stick around long enough, you just might get to hear a whole shitload of unsolicited music opinions from yours truly that just might make you want to laugh, cry, vomit, slap an amputee or any combination of the above.
Now let's document the shit out of the Vancouver music scene.
